Zakkushi Time Again!

Zakkushi Char-Grill Diner

It would not make sense to go to a Char-Grill Diner without ordering some grilled foods! Zakkushi’s stand out offerings are it’s variety of skewers: there are everything from the usual grilled meats (think pork, chicken and beef), to seafood (think octopus, prawns, scallops), to more unique items, such as quail eggs.

A sampler dish of 5 different skewers, known as the “kushi set” on the menu, was ordered. The menu says that the 5 different skewers include: momo, shiso, memaki, ptoro, and harami skewers. I am not Japanese and these names are nothing short of confusing. However, I was able to make out chicken, beef, pork and leek, in the assorted skewers.

The presentation of these skewers are what sets them apart from regular barbecued foods. For one thing, the portions are small; however, they seem to be very carefully made. One of the chicken skewers, for example, is wrapped in a leaf, whereas another beef skewer had a dollop of what I assumed to be sauerkraut.

Overall, while the skewers are not exactly good value for money, they did taste pretty good and were unique.
